I am eating to escape my life. I am eating to purge my life away. I don’t want to put up with my troubles. I don’t want to try at something that I know will make me unhappy. Once I am done, I am done. I don’t want to revisit. I don’t want to retouch. I put it away long ago and here it is haunting me again, on top of every other responsibility I have. Growing up means never being happy anymore? It is a truth that I keep rejecting but in the process I am screwing up my future.

Artifact has Joined SXSW!

In case you haven’t heard about SXSW or South by Southwest, it is the world’s biggest festival featuring Music, Film, and Interactive. It takes place in Downtown Austin, TX and it is typically during the week of spring break. This year the festival lasts from Friday, March 8th till Sunday, March 17th; the film portion of the festival extends from March 8th through March 16th. The festival features blockbuster hits to indie film treasures and most film premiers include a red carpet and a panel where festival goers can get the full effect of the film by getting first class details from it’s creators, directors, and supporters.

This year SXSW is featuring the film that all Echelon have been waiting for: Artifact. The filmed is featured in the 24 Beats Per Second Section of the festival. This section is described as:

“Showcasing the sounds, culture and influence of music and musicians, with an emphasis on documentary.”

Artifact was directed by Bartholomew Cubbins and according to the SXSW site it is a film:

“Telling harsh truths about the modern music business, Artifact gives intimate access to singer/actor Jared Leto and his band Thirty Seconds to Mars as they battle their label in a brutal lawsuit and record their album This Is War.”

As the echelon know, during the recording of Thirty Seconds to Mars’ third studio album, This Is War, the band was sued for 30 million dollars by EMI/ Virgin Records for “breach-of-contract.” The film originally was the story of the band and how they dealt with the struggles of recording an album during the political hardships of the time, as they battled an outrageous lawsuit. During the post-production of the film, Mr. Cubbins changed the story line of the film to shed light on the music industry today and the relationship it has with it’s artist. It features interviews with Chester Bennington from Linkin Park, Brandon Boyd from Incubus, Serj Tankian from System of a Down, as well as EMI/Virgin Executives and people in the industry. The film in 2012 won an Audience Award at the Gotham Awards and a TIFF People’s Choice Awards. We hope that it picks up an award at SXSW!

Melissa and I, of M7M Music, have both volunteered at SXSW and last year, Jared Leto, lead singer of 30 Seconds to Mars, was in Austin, TX for the interactive part of the festival. We unfortunately didn’t run into him, however we have seen a couple of celebrities. We have had the pleasure of volunteering for both the film and music portions of the festival; film premieres and rock shows. This year we are going to attempt to attend, not as volunteers but as patrons. We will let you know how it goes and possibly write about Artifact and other SXSW events. Song of the Evening: Bones by The Killers

It is Wednesday and for normal people that means “date night” for the rest of us here on Tumblr it means “ugh, it’s not Friday.” So I decided to post this very romantic song from The Killers to set the mood as we all troll the inter-webs.

If you are a fan of the Killers, skeletons, and Tim Burton then this is the song/video for you. ‘Bones’ was the second single off of The Killers’ sophomore album Sam’s Town, which is an amazing album by the way. ‘Bones’ was Tim Burton’s first time directing a music video and he did not fail to deliver. The video is classic Tim Burton with skeletons and images from Lolita, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and other classic horror films. In my opinion, Tim Burton + The Killers= a perfect combination.

Recently Tim Burton teamed up with The Killers again and directed the music video for ‘Here With Me’ off of the Killer’s Newest album Battle Born.
